Teus Nobel

Already as a 12-year-old, Dutch trumpet player Teus Nobel played The Last Post during the May 4 Commemoration of WOII in the cemetery of his hometown Krimpen aan de Lek. He continued to do this for years until he moved and left his hometown. The Signal Taptoe Infanterie (as well as The Last Post) came back on his path when he joined the Orchestra of the Royal Netherlands Air Force as a solo trumpet player. On many occasions Teus fulfilled his role as bugler to pay the last respect: at funerals of (former) soldiers, the 4 May Commemoration on Dam Square (2016), the National Tattoo in Ahoy and commemoration ceremonies for the MH17-Air crash, but also during ceremonies in Moscow (RUS) and Bamako (Mali). Although he is best known for his activities as a jazz trumpet player (he won the prestigious Edison Jazz National Award for his album Saudade) he still sees playing trumpet signals and bringing music for commemoration as a grateful duty. He often offers his services to Fermata, a company specialized in funeral music. 2019 marked the most special occasion when he played at funeral of his own father. As difficult as he felt this task was, music for commemoration offers comfort, dignity and a way to overcome grief. And this is exactly what Teus Nobel wants to offer with this release.

Reeds als 12-jarig jongetje speelde trompettist Teus Nobel het Signaal Taptoe Infanterie tijdens de 4-mei Herdenking op de begraafplaats van zijn woonplaats Krimpen aan de Lek. Dit bleef hij jarenlang doen tot hij zijn geboorteplaats verliet. Het Signaal Taptoe Infanterie (maar ook The Last Post) kwam echter weer op zijn pad, toen hij tussen 2010 en 2019 als solotrompettist werkzaam was bij het Orkest der Koninklijke Luchtmacht. Bij begrafenissen van (ex-)militairen, de 4 Mei Herdenking op De Dam (2016), de Nationale Taptoe in Ahoy en herdenkingsceremonies omtrent de MH17-vliegtuigramp, maar ook tijdens ceremonies in Moskou (RUS) en Bamako (Mali) vervulde Teus de rol als 'hoornblazer' om een laatste eer te bewijzen. Alhoewel hij vooral bekend werd om zijn activiteiten als jazztrompettist (o.a. met zijn in 2020 met een Edison Jazz Nationaal bekroonde album Saudade) zal hij het brengen van trompetsignalen en muziek ter herdenking immer als een waardige taak vervullen. Dit doet hij in het heden nog steeds met enige regelmaat voor Fermata, een bedrijf gespecialiseerd in uitvaartmuziek. Maar bijvoorbeeld ook in 2019 tijdens de begrafenis van zijn eigen vader. Hoe moeilijk die taak ook was, muziek ter herdenking biedt troost, waardigheid en verwerking. Dat is exact wat Teus Nobel met deze release wil bieden.
